Weather Detection Systems, Inc. (WDS) was founded in 1991 with a vision of developing new high-performance low-emission Doppler weather radar technology. In 2004, we teamed up with Teledyne MEC, Vacuum Electronics, Rancho Cordova, California, to further solidify our strength and capabilities in the marketplace. (Teledyne MEC is the world leader and preferred supplier in the design, development and manufacture of traveling wave tubes used by all branches of the military. Since 1959, their state-of-the-art electronic warfare and radar traveling wave tubes (TWT) can be found on nearly all major platforms of the United States military and its allies throughout the world).
Together, WDS and Teledyne co-developed a TWT specifically for pulsed weather radar applications. Companies benefiting from this technology include: TelvNet, Boeing Sea Launch, Sigmet/Vaisala, and the Meteorological Departments of Spain and Mexico.
In 2006, WDS filed patents, both domestically and internationally, for an industry changing, innovative multi-transmitter, dual-polarimetric radar design. We also registered and received the “Orion” trademark for this patent-pending radar series.
April, 2008 - U.S. Patent #7,365,696 was issued.
WDS now manufactures its own power amplifiers, pedestals, and exciter/receivers. We also offer extensive expertise in traveling wave tube (TWT) design, Doppler radar hardware design, and signal processing. We are the only company dedicated solely to the art of radar technology.
